What counts as an emergency?
If you’re not sure, just call — Andrew will tell you whether it can wait or whether you need someone right now. As a guide:
- Burst pipe or major leak — water actively escaping, ceiling stains, flooding under floors.
- No heating or hot water in winter — especially with young children, elderly residents, or below-zero forecasts.
- Complete boiler failure — boiler locked out, won’t reset, repeated fault codes.
- Overflowing toilet that can’t be isolated.
- Suspected gas leak (smell of gas) — call the National Gas Emergency Service first on 0800 111 999, then Andrew once it’s made safe.
What to do while you wait
- Stop the water. Find your main stopcock — usually under the kitchen sink or in a downstairs cupboard — and turn it off clockwise.
- Turn off the boiler at the spur or fused switch.
- Open taps to drain water out of the system if a pipe has burst upstairs.
- Switch off electrics in affected rooms at the consumer unit if there’s any chance of water reaching wiring.
- Move furniture & valuables clear of the leak.
Emergency call-out charges
Out-of-hours emergency call-outs carry an additional charge on top of standard labour. The figure is always made clear before Andrew leaves to attend, so there are no surprises when the job is done. Get a free quote →
